Turn a simple scene into a short video and check its generated sound as carefully as its picture.

Turn a simple scene into a short video and check its generated sound as carefully as its picture. Use Grok Imagine on grok.com or in the official Grok app; this guide does not describe the separate Grok Bot app or the developer API.

Before you start

  • A signed-in consumer Grok account with Imagine video generation available, plus enough remaining usage for a test and a revision.
  • One simple scene and one action. A starting image is optional; use only material you have permission to upload and adapt.
  • Speakers or headphones so you can hear the generated audio, and a place to review the clip without background noise.

Skills you’ll need: Describe one shot and its sound, review the full clip, and revise visible or audio problems before downloading it.

How this helps your brand

A focused clip can support a page or post with a clear visual idea. Reviewing motion, sound, and the actual crop helps you choose media that supports your presentation without distracting from the message.

  1. Step 1: Plan one shot and its sound

Start with a short scene that is easy to inspect. For example, a cup of coffee on a café table while steam rises and the camera moves slowly closer. Avoid a first test with several locations, rapid cuts or multiple speakers.

Write the audio brief separately from the picture. For this example, ask for quiet café ambience and one soft cup-on-saucer sound, with no speech or music. Imagine can generate sound effects, ambience and dialogue together with video, but your review determines whether the result is usable.

    One soft cup-on-saucer sound

Keep the first scene easy to inspect: one cup, rising steam, one slow camera move. Name the ambience and exclusions in their own audio instruction.
  2. Step 2: Generate a short first version in Imagine

Open grok.com/imagine or Imagine in the official Grok app. Use the video generation option available to your account. Paste the prompt below after filling in the scene, action, camera movement and sound.

If you are animating a starting image, provide that image as the reference and describe what should move. Keep the first request restrained: rising steam and a slow camera move are easier to judge than a complete transformation of the scene.

Use the duration and shape offered in your current interface. A short first test is enough; API model specifications are not a guarantee of the controls or limits in your consumer account.

  3. Step 3: Watch once, then listen separately

Play the complete clip at normal speed. Check that the subject stays recognisable, the requested motion happens and the camera does not reveal distorted objects.

Then play it again while concentrating on audio. The sound should match the action and the mood. Check for unwanted speech, abrupt changes in loudness and sounds that arrive before or after the visible event.

    • For the café scene, the cup should keep its shape throughout the shot.
    • Steam should move without turning into a different object.
    • Any cup-on-saucer sound should coincide with a visible contact, or be removed from the next brief.

Any cup contact sound lands on visible contact

Watch once for recognisable objects and motion. Listen again for mood, unwanted sounds, and whether each sound matches what you see.

The filmstrip and waveform are a review aid, not a Grok interface. Replay the full result; a contact sound should match a visible contact.
  4. Step 4: Recover from a silent or confusing result

If you hear nothing, first check whether playback is muted and whether your device is sending audio to the expected speakers or headphones. Replay the same result before using more generations.

If the clip itself is silent or the sound is wrong, make a new version with an explicit audio instruction. For example: audible quiet room ambience only; no dialogue, music or impact sounds. If motion is confusing, simplify to a fixed camera and one moving element.

For an access or usage error, follow the message and check Settings, then Usage. Grok may lower a 720p result to 480p after an account reaches its 720p allowance, so inspect the actual result rather than relying on your initial request.

Motion is confusingFix the picture briefUse a fixed camera and one moving element.
2For access or usage errors, follow the message and check Settings → Usage.
Check playback output before regenerating. If the clip itself is silent, revise the audio instruction; if motion is confusing, simplify the visual request.
  5. Step 5: Review the revision before using it

Change one part of the brief at a time and replay the entire new result. A better soundtrack can accompany worse motion, so check both again.

Preview the clip in the page or post where you intend to use it. Check the crop and whether the image still makes sense with playback muted. Preserve Grok’s watermark and other provenance signals. Keep your final prompt alongside a note of the result you selected.

You're done when

  • The clip plays from start to finish and the subject stays recognisable.
  • You have heard the audio and checked it against the visible action, with no unwanted speech or music.
  • You have reviewed the actual crop and quality in the intended placement and preserved the watermark.

COPY AND PASTE

Create a short video of [one subject in one setting].

Action: [one simple movement]
Camera: [fixed camera or one slow movement]
Look: [lighting, colours and visual style]
Framing: [wide, square or vertical, using an available option]
Audio: [specific ambience and sound effects that should be audible]
Exclude: [unwanted speech, music or other elements]

Example: a cream ceramic cup on a wooden café table in soft morning light. Steam rises gently as the camera slowly moves closer. Quiet café room ambience, no dialogue, no music and no impact sounds. Keep the cup and table consistent throughout. Use a short duration supported by the current video option.

Paste the filled-in request into the video workflow in Grok Imagine. Provide your starting image first if you want image-to-video. The prompt requests a result; it does not guarantee exact timing, quality or sound.
